Development Plan:

The department aims to provide a professional education curriculum that integrates with students' learning from the 12-year national curriculum. The curriculum is also combined with the in-depth application of reading technology and potential development. Thus, students can exposure both theoretical and practical knowledge to become educators, rich in ideas and dear to take actions. 

Curriculum Mapping:

MOE has approved the department as the Department of Primary Education, and 30 students can get scholarships to pursue Primary Education without paying credit fees every year and become Primary school teachers. Besides the traditional education courses, the special courses are listed as Literacy TechnologyandPotential Development, and courses related to Science Education and Multicultural Education. These courses can assist students in obtaining more forward-looking and practical knowledge and abilities to deal with educational issues.

Four major objectives:

(1) Equip students with professional knowledge to become high-quality educators

(2) Equip students with professional knowledge of potential development to become high-quality planners

(3) Cultivate talented educators with academic research knowledge

(4) cultivate talented educators with reading and digital technology knowledge.

Occupational outlook:

1. National Primary school teachers

2. Potential Development planner: Assisting students to achieve their professional ability for human resource development or potential development.

3. Educational Professionals: Cultivating students to become professionals in teaching reading and writing, media designing educators, digital teaching, etc.

* Graduate Programs of Education:

- Students in the department can get exposure to learners from diverse cultural backgrounds, such as Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and the US. 

- Graduate students enrolling in this program can broaden their education view, explore and strengthen potential and ability growth through a variety of cross-disciplinary courses - Graduate students have opportunities to exposure to the academic environments (department-level to international-level conferences, guest speaking lectures) and international academic exchanges with brother and sister institutions.

Master: 30 credits – 9 required credits and 21 elective credits (minor major can be accepted when students take 9 elective credits in another major)

Ph.D.: 28 credits – 12 required credits and 16 selective credits (3 department-outside elective credits – optional)

*Four groups for Ph.D. program: (1) Curriculum and Instruction Group (2) Science Education Group (3) Multicultural Education Group

Development Plan:

1. Promote teachers' integration in primary and secondary schools, establish professional groups in different academic disciplines, and improve teaching strategies and materials innovation.

2. Sustain and strengthen sports science research to become a center of sports science and development in Eastern Taiwan.

3. Take advantage of the local identity and local industrial strengths to let students connect theory and practice, create a coherent learning environment and practical curriculum with three components production, management, and learning 

Curriculum Mapping:

Undergraduate program:

1. Sport Science Curriculum includes Sport Science, Health Promotion, and Sports Injury Prevention, combined with applied research and development skills.

2. Sports Education Curriculum aims to cultivate Primary-level teachers in seven majors and Secondary-level teachers in health and physical education. The courses consist of General Principles of Education, General Principles of Teaching, Educational Methods, Educational Practices, and Health and Physical Education.

Master Program/ Master Program for In-Service teachers aims to develop the Sport Humanities into the core of Sport Science and cultivate students to think independently and expertize in cross-disciplinary research.

Development Plan:

It aims to complete the Department of Special Edification's grand vision:

1. Cultivate high-quality special education teachers, and enhance the profession.

2. Strengthen researcher related to supportive skills and indigenous special education, build up the variety of ethnic identities

3. Cultivate professionals with diversified knowledge of special and inclusive education to expand career opportunities.

4. Promote local-international exchanges and conduct international or national academic conferences to grow the academic vision.

Curriculum Mapping:

The department focus on cultivating how to connect theory and practice, professional knowledge, and human development for Primary-level Special Education Teachers. Curriculum mapping mainly prepares students to become special education teachers for disabled students and gifted and talented students. Moreover, students can take some courses related to Primary education to employ mainstream content in their teaching. Teachers' expertise includes Intellectual Disability, Language Disorder, Affective Disorder, Learning Disability, Gifted and Assistive Technology, and other professional fields, allowing the department to provide diverse courses and build up students' potential abilities. Students can apply their professional knowledge to research and innovation and improve their problem-solving skills to meet the requirements for their future careers.

Occupational Outlook

1. Obtain the ability to be a special education teacher for disabled or especially talented students.

2. Obtain the ability to be an institutional caregiver for physically and mentally disabled students, college resource center consultant, and educational institute staff.

*Master programs

- Students in the department can get exposure to learners from diverse cultural backgrounds, such as Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and the US.

- Graduate students enrolling in this program can broaden their view about special education and learn how to teach students in special needs and ICT integrated teaching for gifted and distinguished students

- Students need to take 36 credits which includes 12 required credits and 24 elective credits. Students also can take 6 elective credits outside of department in maximum (optional).

- Graduate students have opportunities for exposure to academic environments (department-level to international-level conferences, guest speaking lectures) and international academic exchanges with brother and sister institutions.

4. Department of Early Childhood Education

Development Plan:

1. Cultivate early childhood pre-service teachers, promote early childhood profession standard

2. Strengthen Early Childhood Education Research in Eastern Taiwan with diverse ethnicity.

3. Carry out school-industry cooperation in Early Childhood Education, increasing practical and career opportunities.  

4. Develop the specialty of Early Childhood caregiver training, and set up an adequate professional program.

Curriculum Mapping:

The department has received MOE's recognition as a quality institute of Early Childhood Education, intending to train excellent kindergarten teachers and Educare givers. The department also provides primary education courses; thus, besides the professional knowledge, students can learn how to do research and employ it in practice. The department provides two programs:

(1) Kindergarten EduCare Giver: To improve students' practice and expertise as Educare givers and increase their competitiveness in the job market.

(2) Kindergarten Teacher Training program: To enhance students’ needed knowledge to be professional kindergarten teachers or after-school Educare givers.

Occupational Outlook:

1. Kindergarten teachers, Educare givers, parenting class instructors, daycare center managers, and daycare workers.

2. Other relevant occupations: Children's literature writers, Producers of Podcasts for kids, hosting events for Kid shows, Children's theater staff, and Kid songwriters.

3. Experts in research institutes and educational institutions, research assistants, participating in research work and scholarly publication, or applying for qualification exams for government employees.

*Master programs

- Students in the department can get exposure to learners from diverse cultural backgrounds, such as Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and the US.

- Graduate students enrolling in this program can broaden their view about early childhood education and understand local and global perspectives about early childhood educare in order to become high-quality educare researchers.

- Students need to take 36 credits which includes 12 required credits and 24 elective credits. Students also can take 6 elective credits outside of department in maximum (optional).

- Graduate students have opportunities for exposure to academic environments (department-level to international-level conferences, guest speaking lectures) and international academic exchanges with brother and sister institutions.

5. Department of Educational Administration and Management

Development Plan:

1. Through related theories and practical case discussion, the department aims to cultivate students into education administration and management experts.

2. The department also encourages students to participate in a variety of international conferences, enhance experience and knowledge exchanges

3. Integrating with in- and off-campus resources, the department aims to assist students in obtaining professional knowledge and provide relevant information and training to increase occupational opportunities and competitiveness.

4. The department also encourages students to pursue further studies in the department or other domestic and international institutions

5. The department provides and supports students with professional knowledge regarding education administration and management to meet the requirements for internationalization trends.

Curriculum Mapping:

Students in the department approach theory and practice related to educational administration and management through case studies, inquiry-based learning, technology-assisted learning, and practical curriculum. The curriculum aims to cultivate students to understand theories of educational administration to implement into practices and ability of the educational business.

For the undergraduate level, the department focuses on cultivating primary teachers and administrative staff working in primary schools. For master and in-service master programs, the department's goal is to develop students' professions. For the doctoral program, the department focus on the ability to do research. The curriculum structure is based on course relations, providing students with a comprehensive curriculum picture.

4. Becoming educational researchers

- Graduate students enrolling in this program can broaden their view about educational administration and understand school-based management and organization development

- Students need to take 36 credits which includes 7 required credits and 23 elective credits.

- Graduate students have opportunities for exposure to academic environments (department-level to international-level conferences, guest speaking lectures) and international academic exchanges with brother and sister institutions.
